Group Evaluation
Just a reminder to everyone that our group evaluations are in fact due this Wednesday! Sarah told our class that she would prefer it if we simply typed it all up, rather than fill out 6 evaluation forms....
Make sure to be there Wednesday, we are getting a grade for participating by evaluating the tours.
On a side note, Charlie and Mel will hopefully begin filming their "short film" for their portion of the multi-media. This will then be posted on the blog to further the density of the blog, as well as diversify its contents.
See you all Wednesday!

Involving the class in our blog
Hi cody!
I was wondering if you ever got to invite the rest of the class to the blog?
I know about at least a few that would like to check it out.
If you need a list with email addresses let me know.
see you on wednesday!

Didn't go near as bad as I had thought :], honestly I thought we did a rather good job....

tour outline is DONE
Ok guys the tour guidelines document is DONE. I added cody's learning objectives (thank for helping refining it cody) and the intro. I doubled checked with the google shared document that no one added any new info on there, to make sure our outline is updated and synchronized.

I will send everybody an email with the file, please have a printed copy handy tomorrow, incase there are new details on there that were added that you haven't seen.
see you tomorrow.

The Big Day Tomorrow :o
Since our tour is tomorrow, perhaps we should use this little post as refuge for any last minute questions or concerns that anyone might have?
See you all tomorrow, bright n' early

Marie Watt: Blanket Stories
Nathan - Meytal transition:
First, thank you nathan for the horrible picture of me...haha ;)
here is how I will transition from your work to mine:
Theodore Waddell uses expressionist landscape to explore his place, whereas Marie Watt , uses the influences of her place to shape and articulate the message expressed in her work.

Transition: Ashlee-Nathan
I will be highlighting the duality between the subjects of the paintings, with respect to "place". Obviously, Ashlee's being of New York and mine being of an open range Montana, this won't be hard to express. I'll also mention Ashlee's painter (who's name escapes me) desired to not paint in an expressionistic style, which is exactly what Waddell's style lends itself to.

"Three Kids"

This is a picture of one of the works I am going to talk about. It was done in 1968 by William Cumming. From the books and articles that I have read, he seems like a pretty odd guy. He was a Communist :-(
This work really demonstrates what his art is all about: figures in motion. Shadowed backgrounds are also prominent in his work. He tends to gray colors (what he calls "sour color") because of the NW air which has been so ever apparent lately. Interesting fact, he mixes egg yolk with tempura. Hmmmm...
Could somebody post the tour outline and transition stuff gone over on Wednesday? Thank you much.

Tour conclusion
The tour conclusion we came up with today:
Although the artists chose to explore different regions and places, in their work they all seek to understand something about themselves by cultures and places that shape who they are and they way they think and create...
"The Bombardier" (Mel's chosen work)
yay or nay?
Unfortunately a few of the works our group were interested in speaking about (Apex, and the two "Asian" sculptures are not allowed to be photographed without permission because they are loaned to the museum. I blurred out the sculptures and put a pixel effect over them as well. Do you believe this is acceptable? The reason being is I have more photos to post and upload but I don't want to be getting into legal trouble for doing so ;D
Tour Logistics
Today our group met at the PAM again to discuss more specific details with regards to our tour. We talked about the way we will introduce our tour, how we will transition from one piece to another, and how we'll conclude. I plan to make note cards this weekend so I can have some reference material during the actual tour.

NW Contemporary Tour Outline
Today we turned in our outline for the tour we'll be giving in the NW Contemporary Gallery. Our team will be meeting on Wednesday to fine-tune that outline, and work out more detailed information regarding how we'll be proceeding.
Our over-arching theme is that of Place and Identity. Where the Native American Gallery often roots Place and Identity as being closely linked, Contemporary artists tend to have much more fluid definitions of regionality and cultural stratification. While Contemporary artists cannot help but be informed by their own environments, their art often accentuates how Where We Come From means something else in culture dependent on technology, travel, consumer trends and disposable income. Our tour through the Contemporary Gallery will offer insight into how artists provide a discourse - through their work - about Place and Identity. To do this, we will feature and discuss a number of works that span a variety of forms and styles, using audience participation and research to foreground what we've found.
All in all, it'll be a blast.

Chris Jordan
For the NW Contemporary tour, I'll be discussing Chris Jordan's Apex exhibit. His digital photos combine thousands of smaller photos to create a larger image, that comments on the nature of both. The images that are hanging at PAM, as well as many others and an artist's statement, can be found on his personal website:
http://www.chrisjordan.com/
You can also find more information about the Apex exhibit on the PAM website, too:

Useful Classroom Tool
This blog can be used to help Work of Art students track classroom events through posts, comments, and other on-line interactions to reduce confusion. Students, Mentors, and Profs can post information, leave comments, and offer useful links and other kinds of on-line resources, that will enable students to stay on-task and post class-related information for each others use.
