NW Contemporary Tour Outline

Today we turned in our outline for the tour we'll be giving in the NW Contemporary Gallery. Our team will be meeting on Wednesday to fine-tune that outline, and work out more detailed information regarding how we'll be proceeding.

Our over-arching theme is that of Place and Identity. Where the Native American Gallery often roots Place and Identity as being closely linked, Contemporary artists tend to have much more fluid definitions of regionality and cultural stratification. While Contemporary artists cannot help but be informed by their own environments, their art often accentuates how Where We Come From means something else in culture dependent on technology, travel, consumer trends and disposable income. Our tour through the Contemporary Gallery will offer insight into how artists provide a discourse - through their work - about Place and Identity. To do this, we will feature and discuss a number of works that span a variety of forms and styles, using audience participation and research to foreground what we've found.

All in all, it'll be a blast.
